Wanganui Swimming Club coach Jane Lowe is delighted with her team's performance at the national short course championships in Wellington.
Yesterday, Thomas Ireton, 17, took 2s off the Wanganui open record in the 200m butterfly, placing 7th in his age group and making the 16-years and over final with a time of 2.11.47s.
Laura O'Keeffe's 400m freestyle race saw her set a new Wanganui age group record and personal best in 4.38.47s - 9th overall in her 14-years age group.
And Nina Eades' 50m backstroke race, at 31.71s, was the 8th best for her 14-years age group.
Lowe said the results were awesome. "I'm very, very pleased with their performance."
She said the club's focus would now be on the central North Island championships in Rotorua in a fortnight.
Having taken the club trophy in that competition in 2010 and 2011, Lowe said they would be looking to keep hold of it.
The 11 local swimmers involved in the national champs needed to qualify for the event, and Lowe said they would continue to develop.
