Whanganui artist Max McGrail is guest exhibitor at Whanganui Fine Arts Gallery on Taupo Quay this month.
Visions features 10 of his paintings - each one mounted in its own custom made frame.
"Every work is intended to encourage the viewer to make their own interpretations and arrive at their own conclusions," he says.
Whanganui-born McGrail says he developed an early interest in art and went on to study at Elam School of Fine Arts where he graduated in 1977.
His style has been described as unique, and difficult to define it into one category.
His works contain elements from fantasy, surrealism through to symbolism and touches of the pre-Raphealites.
McGrail's preferred medium is oil paint which is built up in thin layers, and diminished in fine detail.
Fine Arts Collective member Julie Laird said Visions is a "fascinating collection" of recent works by McGrail.
Also on show at the gallery are works by Fine Arts members including Amla Meijer's latest collection of laser cut wood and mixed media badges.
