Upbeat tunes, stalls of street food and rays of sunshine made the Riverside Shindig a popular outing as hundreds of Whanganui stayers gathered at the event on Sunday.

By noon, the intended kick-off time for the event, the riverside grounds on Taupo Quay were covered.

It was the go-to Vintage Weekend event for costumes lovers.

"I just think it's a fantastic event, everyone really seems to be getting into it and I've had heaps of people coming up to me complimenting me on my outfit which is nice," Ms Rowe said.

Entertainment wasn't lacking - a stage was set up for a Bob Dylan song contest and a vintage costume competition with music performances pleased the crowd throughout the day.
