A 21-year-old man was due to be transferred to Waikato Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after an early morning incident at Whanganui's Wembley Park.
Senior Sergeant Shayne Wainhouse, of Whanganui Police, said the man received multiple cuts when he was assaulted with a weapon about 2am on Sunday. He was treated at Whanganui Hospital and was to be transferred to Waikato Hospital for further treatment.
A 25-year-old man was arrested and appeared in the Whanganui District Court yesterday. He has been remanded in custody to reappear on January 23.
Mr Wainhouse said the incident occurred in Wembley Park near the end of Falkland St and police are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard what happened. Anyone with information can contact Whanganui Police on 349 0600 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
