Don't worry about a thing.
The Minister for Regional Economic Development was in Whanganui on Thursday and spoke to assure that Government investment was on its way.
Holding up a front page editorial in Wednesday's Wanganui Chronicle, asking Shane Jones to bring his chequebook he spoke to assure the region's politicians and business representatives that money was on the way.
"Don't worry a single thing about this," he said.
"It's got my photo. It's got my rather rotund puku. A good politician never stops campaigning."
In a meeting attended by councillors from Whanganui and Rangitikei districts and Horizons Regional Council Mr Jones was given a run down of what the district wanted to do with the port revamp.
Welcoming Mr Jones to the Innovation Quarter on St Hill St, Whanganui mayor Hamish McDouall said he wanted to show that the region had ideas and was ready for investment.
"What I want to say first of all is a bit of an apology for some infelicitous sub-editing which suggests that you've been asked to bring your chequebook," he said.
"Well, we're not here to be greedy. We want you to bring your checklist.
"You asked for projects, we've got one," he said, referring to upgrades at Whanganui's port.
During this year's election campaign Labour promised $3 million to repair the north and south moles and is setting up a $1billion regional investment fund.
"We're not asking for the chequebook to be flopped out today. What we want to do is acknowledge your commitment to the regions."
Mr Jones said Government was ready to work together "to do the business".
"Politicians are on a 36-month hikoi. And we can write voluminous numbers of words, a lots of reports, but this time there is an actual fund," he said.
"When (Finance Minister) Grant Robinson goes through the fiscal process and (Prime Minister) Jacinda Ardern leads our Cabinet to sign it off, it's up and going for business.
"You already know that the Prime Minister has identified Whanganui and Manawatu as a priority. So I'm really here to look, learn and listen and to nudge things along."
