It's a young person's current affairs show in that it races along delivering news snaps with alacrity and quick summaries.
The Project TV3 makes no apologies for its fast paced show hosted by Jesse Mulligan, with sidekicks Josh Thomson and Kanoa Lloyd and varied guest panelists who relish their rotated appearances.
This show is rather like sliding your mobile phone apps, here it is, this is it, now it's gone and on to the next snippet, or maybe that should snappet.
Personally it's not for me. If I'm watching news and current affairs on tele I prefer more background, depth and news without firing jokes at any given moment.
The programme uses the latest news stories making the cut without the serious news-style delivery which might upset the kids.
No doubt about it folks, this is again a programme about personalities punctuated with some so-called devilish humour.
Call me old fashioned but I prefer my news straight not stirred thanks.
This week a piece that raced through the latest housing crisis by quickly informing those desperate to get on the housing ladder they could be in with a chance in January when the new deposit amount takes effect.
Quick split-second piece to camera by Finance Minister Grant Robertson then off to Bali and volcano Mt Agung spewing smoke and ashes.
Huge danger alert but the project team chose a NZ couple in Bali who weren't concerned at all really. Well they weren't at the foot of mountain, it didn't affect them, and they were having a jolly time thanks.
What about those villagers at the foot of the volcano? What about them, indeed, go to main news for your answers.
And suddenly there is rock singer fave Ed Sheeran and an exclusive interview in London.
Yeees! The panel were doing everything but twirl with excitement on their seats.
Continuing with their whistle-stop pace they sped through a little more of the day's events then wrapped up.
I think back to John Campbell and Campbell Live in this same slot and still wonder why did they did that.
I'm sure there are others out there still feeling bereft.
No doubt about it, John Campbell was the real deal. Sadly it's not up to us so farewell to the well informed current affairs tele show.
The Project is akin to much of our faster, brighter formula reality shows in the hopes it will fulfill a younger audience.
Well it won't. Because staying face down in your mobile phone can't be beaten. Texts, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter ... they're the real world.
Yeah real!
