Whanganui's Brain Injury Association gets funding toward a liaison officer and St John's Hill School is to have its pool upgraded - thanks to donations from the New Zealand Community Trust.
Its donations to Whanganui groups added up to more than $180,000 for the month of October.
By far the biggest was to the Sarjeant Gallery. It gets $150,000 toward earthquake strengthening and a new wing.
The next biggest was to Wanganui Community Sports Centre, $15,000 to be used for redressing a floor and installing security lighting outside Jubilee Stadium.
St John's Hill School has been given $10,000 for a swimming pool upgrade. The Brain Injury Association wants to put its $5000 donation toward the salary of a liaison officer, and the Aramoho Bowling Club is to use its $3000 for sprays, fertilisers and chemicals.
And also thanks to the trust, Te Kura Kaupapa Maori of Te Atihaunui-a-Paparangi pupils will have their transport to the Mana Kuratahi National Primary Kapa Haka Competition in Gisborne paid for.
The competition was last week. The school, combined with Te Kura o Kokohuia, sent 40 children and 20 adults.
The New Zealand Community Trust is funded by the proceeds of gaming venues. They include, in Whanganui, Caroline's Boatshed, Castlecliff Hotel, Red Lion Inn, Stellar Bar, Shotz and the Tandoori Spice Bar.
