A house of horrors is in the making on Taupo Quay as the Whanganui Regional Museum prepares for its Halloween spooks and frights night on Tuesday.
The building at 49 Taupo Quay, next to the Whanganui City Bridge, is being transformed into a haunted trail designed to spook even the bravest of adventurers, events co-ordinator Rachael Garland said.
"Along the way participants will encounter rather spooky characters residing in rather scary places," Ms Garland said.
"Children can interact with them and trick or treat. A range of treats, including allergy friendly and non-food options, will be on offer for any people who are brave enough to ask.
"There are also other features such as UV lighting, tunnels, skeletons, spiders, dark corners and rather daunting doors to open. A highlight will be the Halloween photo booth right in the middle of the house of horrors where kids and adults can get their portraits taken."
The first hour (5.30pm to 6.30pm) will be more appropriate for children aged 5-9. As it gets darker, the scare-factor will increase for ages 10-plus from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.
"Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult because it is scary in places," Ms Garland said.
"Everyone is encouraged to come along in scary costumes. As a bonus Recaffeinate, the coffee house right next door, will be open for the duration of the event if anybody needs rehydrating to recover from the adrenalin rush."
The museum's house of horrors will be open on Tuesdayfrom 5.30pm to 7.30pm. Entry is by gold coin and begins at the front door of 49 Taupo Quay. People with accessibility requirements should contact the museum on 349 1110 before the event.
