The work of volunteers will be rewarded and acknowledged at the 2017 Trustpower Whanganui District Community Awards next Monday.
Organisers say it promises to be a great night filled with inspiring stories of what volunteers are achieving in the Whanganui community.
Since the Trustpower Whanganui District Community Awards began in 2013, more than $20,000 has been given away to deserving voluntary groups and organisations and this year more than $5000 is up for grabs.
The awards cover five categories - Heritage and Environment, Health and Wellbeing, Arts and Culture, Sport and Leisure, and Educational and Child/Youth Development.
Category winners receive $500, runners-up receive $250 and the Supreme Winner will take home $1500 and an all-expenses-paid trip to the 2017 Trustpower National Community Awards being held in Queenstown in April next year.
Bushy Park Trust were the supreme award winners in 2016 and more than $5000 was shared between the winners and runners-up in all categories.
One group missed out on receiving their prize at the awards night because they were away on their school holidays.
Mayor Annette Main made a special visit to present the Castlecliff School breakfast club volunteers with their award when they were back at school.
The young students had stepped up to run the club during staff absences and illness as well as taking responsibility for cleaning up afterwards.
The 2017 Trustpower Whanganui District Community Awards will be held at War Memorial Conference Centre on Monday October 16.
