Auckland's three-piece ukulele band, The Nukes are on their way to Whanganui to promote their new album III.
David "Snapper" Thiele, Ben Collier and Dave Parker are described as "part vaudeville, part rat-pack, part musical car crash".
With their mix of humour and originality, they take the innocent little ukulele as their instrument of choice and do incredible things with it.
Thiele's instrument is in fact a banjolele, and Collier and Parker both play tenor ukuleles.
The Nukes (by their own admission) have been gaining a growing reputation for "reckless and riveting live performances where a fine blend of folk, bluegrass, reggae and post punk is caressed, coaxed and beaten out of three innocent wee ukuleles".
Mike Chunn has described The Nukes as being at the "forefront of a burgeoning ukulele fiesta" and praised their contemporary originals and their ability to create a "buoyant live atmosphere".
The Nukes have toured in New Zealand and Australia and performed at many NZ festivals from Bluff's oyster festival to WOMAD and Auckland and Canterbury folk festivals.
III, as the name suggests is The Nukes' third album following 2014's Lucky Ones and 2012's Each to their own.
The Nukes will present their live show at the Musicians' Club next Friday night and on Saturday they will run one of their popular workshops with Whanganui ukulele players of all ages and abilities.
