With just hours until they cross the finish line, the Whanganui sisters rowing from Ibiza to Barcelona are sitting in a comfortable second place.
A few months ago Kate and Harriet Austin signed up for a charity sea-boat race, rowing 200 miles in three days to raise $20,000 for HPV cancers.
On Sunday, the pair - with their two other crew members- embarked on the race of a life time.
Rowing in two-hour blocks, the team are up against three competing crews, two all men and one all women.
The sister's father, Richard Austin, who has been watching the race in Whanganui via the GPS online site, said the crews had been pretty neck and neck.
"They've pushed out in front of one of the boys crew and it looks like all crews will be finishing within the expected time."
