Maria Fredette has taught art to people aged 2 to 94 - and she is happy to stretch those age limits.
"I'll teach people of any age."
Ms Fredette has just set up her own art school, Fredette School of Arts, in Victoria Court, Victoria Ave.
She's an experienced art teacher, having spent 17 years as a working artist and four years as an art teacher - and she believes in making art fun.
"I love teaching art. I love watching people learn and grow."
Ms Fredette will take adult or children, beginners or professional artists. Pupils can choose to take a drop-in class or an eight-week course.
"The classes are ongoing, which means you can join at any time. I put together an individualised class for each student. Everyone is at their own place - so I need to meet them where they are."
Ms Fredette, originally from Canada, has been in Whanganui four months, and moved here from Wellington with her Kiwi partner.
"I wanted to open an arts school in a provincial town that had a good arts scene," she said.
The couple visited Whanganui while on a trip to Palmerston North.
"We drove down Victoria Ave and just fell in love with the place. And I said, 'We have to move here.' So we did."
