South Taranaki folk will be able to slide and glide and hopefully not collide at an ice rink in their region.
For two weeks from July 3 the TSB Hub will be transformed into a winter wonderland with the installation of an ice skating rink.
The synthetic ice skating rink will be in Hawera for a fortnight, offering South Taranaki residents a chance to try ice skating.
Because the rink is synthetic it's not cold but in other ways it will simulate frozen ice rink conditions.
South Taranaki District Council events co-ordinator Jody Blair said while it might not be ice "...don't be fooled, you can still slip over!"
"It's pretty close to skating on natural ice.
"It's slightly slower - 97% gliding capacity of natural ice - and a bit easier for beginners as it's not so slippery. It looks like ice, skates like ice - but is not ice!"
The rink will be open to the public while some Year 5 and 6 students from 22 schools throughout the district will be having classes during the last week of the school term.
Ms Blair said because of support from TSB Community Trust, the school classes are fully subsidised and the public sessions will be offered at a discounted rate.
Ice skates, helmets and gloves are part of the admission fee.
The Ice Skate Tour will be in Hawera from July 3 to 16 July.
