A woman who punched another person in the head in central Whanganui has been ordered to pay the victim $200.
Annasophia Calman, 59, appeared before Judge Philip Crayton in Whanganui District Court on Tuesday. She faced one charge of common assault.
Police prosecutor Rachel Willemsen said Calman was at a bank in Victoria Ave when she saw the victim, and asked a question about a past incident.
She then punched the victim once, in the head, and walked back into the bank, where police were called.
Duty solicitor Harete Hipango said the punch was an impulse, and Calman had one previous assault on her record, from 20 years ago.
Neither party wanted to take the matter to a restorative justice hearing.
Judge Crayton said while the punch was unprovoked and unexpected, he didn't think it was premeditated. At her age, he hoped not to see Calman in court again.
She was told to pay the victim $200, and do 100 hours' community work.
