A group will gather outside the Whanganui District Council building at noon on Tuesday to push for clean and plentiful water in New Zealand, Jen Branje says.
She's the founder of the NZ Water Forum - Bung the Bore. She's on a petition road trip and will present the petition at Parliament at noon on Tuesday. It asks for a moratorium on corporates bottling water for profit.
Ms Branje is from Ashburton, where her group stopped a private company taking ground water, bottling it and selling it overseas. She said Canterbury irrigators were using millions of litres of pure water to make grass grow, while residents were asked not to use hoses during summer droughts.
"Our water is becoming privatised, when nobody owns water! It's time we all stand up and demand clean water!" the forum's Facebook message says.
She didn't know of any water bottling companies in Whanganui, but said the rally would be about water management as a whole, including swimmable rivers.
Other rallies are planned throughout New Zealand, at the same time, and Ms Branje is looking for someone to lead the Whanganui event.
