There will be flowers in all kinds in surprising new colours in a free show at the Whanganui Intermediate School hall on Saturday afternoon.
It's the Wanganui Horticultural Society Summer Show and on from noon to 5pm, society vice-President and show co-ordinator Wayne Hughes said.
The main focus will be the flowers of summer, dahlias and gladioli, but there will also be roses, lilies and potplants, a section for fruit and vegetables, four trade stalls and a raffle.
Dahlias and gladioli come in the biggest range of colours of any group of flowers, Mr Hughes said. Some are likely to surprise those who see them.
Entries will be received on the day and can be taken home after the show. The judges are mainly local people, with a Feilding man to judge gladioli.
The entries are likely to come from as far away as New Plymouth and the Kapiti Coast.
It's been an unusual season for flower growers, Mr Hughes said.
"It goes right back to September/October, because of the lack of cold. A cold snap brings all flowers on."
The warmer spring has had flowers blooming a week later than usual, he said - and many have also been buffeted by wind.
