There will be no slap on the wrist for one drunk driver, a court heard.
Casey Kay pleaded guilty in Whanganui District Court on Tuesday for one charge of driving with an excess blood alcohol of 400mcg.
Police prosecutor Stephen Butler told the court Kay was pulled over on December 9 at 11pm. When tested she was found to have a blood alcohol reading of 569mcg, more than twice the legal limit.
She told the officers she felt fine to drive.
Her lawyer Raukawa Simon told the court her client had asked if the matter could be settled with a fine.
But Judge David Cameron noted that Kay had a fine for previous drunk driving conviction in 2013.
"She can't expect to have the same penalty for the same offence."
Speaking to Kay he told her "as you are about to discover the penalty goes up each time."
He sentenced her to 80 hours community work and disqualified her from driving for six months.
