Croissants, steamed pudding, glazed ham and double chocolate mousse are all on the menu over the Christmas period in Whanganui Hospital.
The festive spirit will start on Christmas Eve with meal trays featuring a Christmas theme and treats.
On Christmas Day the breakfast menu includes croissants and fruit toast followed by Christmas lunch with a choice of roast lamb or roast chicken with homemade stuffing and gravy, roast vegetables, baby carrots and peas.
Vegetarians will be offered a filo roll served with the same choice of vegetables.
For dessert the choice includes steamed plum pudding with brandy sauce; pavlova and berry sauce; or sugar free jelly and fruit, with a Christmas treat to top it off.
The evening meal will begin with roasted pumpkin soup, followed by a choice of glazed ham (served with steamed gourmet potatoes and salad); a roast turkey and cranberry sauce sandwich and salad; or roast vegetable and feta salad.
Evening desserts will be a choice of double chocolate mousse, stewed fruit, or jelly and ice cream.
Supper will be either cheese and crackers, or berry yoghurt.
Depending on patient numbers, around 100 meals are likely to be served each mealtime by Spotless Services in Whanganui Hospital.
Around 80 Whanganui Meals on Wheels recipients will receive the same delicious Christmas lunch.
