A woman tried to use a stroller to steal clothes but was foiled when the store alarm activated.
Capri Brook pleaded guilty before the Whanganui District Court on Tuesday on charges related to shoplifting.
Police prosecutor Steven Butler told the court Brook entered Rebel Sports Whanganui at 10.39am on September 30 with a stroller covered by a blanket.
Staff later noted that there did not appear to be a baby inside.
Once inside, Brook and one other perpetrator took turns pushing the stroller and taking various clothing item off the shelves and placing them inside the stroller.
They then attempted to exit the store but were stopped when the alarm activated as they crossed the threshold.
The two left the stroller with the goods inside and ran to a car parked near the store exit.
When later questioned by police Brook gave no explanation for her actions.
In total, the two attempted to steal 21 items valued at $1241.
Judge Philip Crayton postponed sentencing until March 17.
"With your history and given the nature of this offence, the result is likely to be jail," he said.
