Soprano Hafren Jones will join the Wanganui Community Choir for a concert on December 10.
Ms Jones is the daughter of Tyrone Jones, who founded the Wanganui Community Choir in 1991.
She is a New Zealander of Zambian and Welsh descent, and is currently completing her Masters in Music Therapy at Victoria University. She took singing lessons with her father from age 16, and later completed a Bachelor of Music in Sydney, majoring in opera.
Ms Jones took part in the Ryde Eisteddfod singing competition in 2013 and was invited twice to sing the Australian national anthem at the Excelsia College graduation ceremony. In 2014 she performed as a guest soloist for the Taranaki Male Choir and Geelong Welsh Ladies Choir from Australia.
Once she has finished her Masters, Ms Jones intends to work in New Plymouth as a registered music therapist. She enjoys singing a wide variety of genres including opera, symphonic heavy metal, hip hop, rap, RnB, classical and musical theatre.
Wanganui Community Choir's Summer Concert, with guest artist Hafren Jones, will be held at Trinity Methodist Church in Wicksteed St, at 2pm on December 10. Tickets at the door, adults $15, seniors and secondary school students $10, primary school children free.
