Mayor Hamish McDouall received a dunking at the Wanganui East School annual gala on Wednesday night thanks to a pinpoint shot by one lucky student.
The mayor goaded the students, shouting "miles off" before student Levi Hoekstra, 10, took the plate and landed his second shot.
"It was awesome seeing him get wet," said Levi.
Mr McDouall says he got roped into the role before he took the top job.
"I've done it before, I promised friend that if I won the election I'd resume my dunking."
Although he's happy to help out the school, he thinks his days of dunking are over.
"I think I'll hand it over to one of the younger counsellors, they can have this particular portfolio."
Organiser Tracy Hutchins said funds from the gala are going towards a new playground for the school.
"Its been there for a while and its getting a bit old, its wooden, so we want to replace the whole playground area."
Seeing the mayor get a soaking wasn't the only attraction for the day.
"We've got the vintage car club here with about five of their cars and we've got a chocolate trailer.
"We've also got a horizontal bungee, its tied to the tree and you've got to walk across it to grab a prize."
