Strong winds helped topple trees and lift roofing in Whanganui on Tuesday.
The fire service was called to a Helmore Street, Whanganui East, home where roofing iron lifted and threatened to detach.
Three large trees fell on Longacre Road closing it temporarily as work crews cleared obstructions. Trees also fell along Fields Track.
Whanganui District Council infrastructure manager Mark Hughes said more trees were expected to fall due to the strong winds and saturated ground conditions.
He said people travelling throughout the district needed to be cautious.
"We have roading teams out in areas across the district to clear fallen trees as soon as possible."
Fresh winds gusted up to about 60kph throughout much of the day.
