Alzheimers Wanganui is organising a "memory walk" this weekend to raise the profile of the organisation.

Now in its second year, the memory walk will take place at 10am on September 17. Participants will gather at the Whanganui River Traders Market then walk to the Dublin St bridge and back.

Alzheimers Wanganui manager Wendy Paterson said September was Alzheimers Awareness Month.

"We want to let people know that we are here, and we are able to help."

Mrs Paterson said entry to the walk would be by gold coin koha. The walk would be followed by a free sausage sizzle provided by staff from Ray White Real Estate. Everyone is welcome to take part in the memory walk.

Mrs Paterson said Alzheimers Wanganui assisted about 160 people living with dementia, and their carers.

"One of our biggest services is The Group. This is a group that meets regularly for fun activities for people with Alzheimers.

"And it helps give carers a bit of a break," Mrs Paterson said.
