One woman was hospitalised after a two-car crash just north of Kai Iwi on Thursday afternoon.
Police Sergeant Shaun Jones said it appeared a north-bound car had lost control and crossed the centre line before colliding with a ute travelling in the other direction.
Both vehicles came to a stop about 20m apart of the same side of the road.
The ute had had its front right tyre ripped off.

Mr Jones said their had been heavy hail around the time of the accident and the road was covered in ice.
"It must've been pretty treacherous," he said.
The female driver of the car had been taken to hospital with a head knock.
Mr Jones said it was a good reminder to drive to the conditions.
