An event held in other regions went down well when it was tried in Whanganui, Central Football operations manager Kylie MacKenzie says.

On Saturday she held a Junior Football Tournament to thank the players and end their season. It ran from 9am to 2pm at Wembley Park in Whanganui East, with lots of help from hosts Wanganui City.

There were 64 teams of players aged six to 13 on the field. Ribbons were awarded to the winner and runner-up teams in each of 10 pools.

Ms MacKenzie said the weather was fantastic and the day was awesome. The children were really excited about their ribbons and one player in each team also got a Fair Play award, a prize pack sponsored by Eastbrook Food Market.

There is to be another end of season tournament next year.
