An argument over alleged damage to a car led to one man punching another several times in the face.
Terrance Toko-Warren had been drinking on May 11 when he got into the argument with his victim.
He accused the victim of breaking part of a friend's vehicle, police prosecutor Sergeant Drew Morrison said on Tuesday in the Whanganui District Court.
Toko-Warren started punching the victim in the head, knocking him to the ground.
He earlier appeared in court and was offered a diversion for the charge of common assault, which he pleaded guilty to.
However, he did not complete diversion, so appeared for sentence this week.
Judge Philip Crayton sentenced him to six months of supervision.
