A man who sped through Whanganui to escape police has been disqualified from driving.
Shay Myers was an unlicensed driver when he offended on May 28.
Police had been called to an address on another matter when they spotted Myers driving away from the scene, police prosecutor Sergeant Stephen Butler said in the Whanganui District Court on Tuesday.
Police tried to stop Myers but he fled, driving about 50-80km/h around residential streets before climbing in speed to 70-100km/h.
Myers was eventually found by police, and said he "freaked out and didn't want his car impounded," Mr Butler said.
He pleaded guilty in court to failing to stop for police and for being an unlicensed driver failing to comply.
Judge David Cameron disqualified him from driving for six months.
