Sir Jerry Mateparae is expected to be named as our next High Commissioner to London.
Newstalk ZB Political Editor Barry Soper believes the Government's been in talks with the outgoing Governor-General, who's expressed an interest in a life after Government House.
Sir Jerry's five year term finishes in August, while London incumbent, Sir Lockwood Smith's term finishes later this year.
There was speculation that the job would go to the current Speaker David Carter, but it was reported Winston Peters made it clear if National wanted his support after the next election, then they had to count Mr Carter out.
The Foreign Minister also said Mr Peters would be happy with the person they're talking to ... he'd have no objection to Sir Jerry.
Sir Jerry is originally from Castlecliff.
