By melissa.nightingale@wanganuichronicle.co.nz

Firefighters rushed to the rescue of an elderly woman who got her hand stuck in her car seat.

Police called firefighters to the scene outside the dairy on Parsons St, in Springvale, Wanganui Fire Senior Station Officer Doug Bennett said.

The call came in at 5.19pm on Wednesday.

The woman's hand had somehow got trapped in the car seat, he said.

He said the woman was freed by 5.28pm, so she "wasn't stuck for long".

Meanwhile, firefighters have been busy in the stormy weather, after a tree fell on to power lines on Thursday morning, and a fence fell down.
