Bollywood movies and men's clothing aside, Arvind Kumar has everything he needs in Whanganui.
After 28 years in Wellington he decided to make the move north earlier this year, soon to be joined by his wife.
"It's a very welcoming community," he said.
While working as business services manager at the Whanganui Regional Health Network, Mr Kumar has spent his first weekends exploring his new home.
The cafes, restaurants, outdoor facilities and attractions have all got his approval.
"They're right up there with Auckland and Wellington."
And the two things he's missing - Bollywood movies and good men's clothing - are only two hours' drive away.
A fondness for Whanganui has always occupied a small part of his mind. He spent some time in the city when his son would travel for rowing and cricket, and then thought it was a place he wanted to live in the future.
Then the right time and the right job came up.
"It's a great place to go for walks and relax," he said. "The countryside is so near the city and there are a lot of things to explore that we haven't done yet.
"We want to start cycling again ... then there's the National Park which we can explore.
"The Saturday market is great - you just wander around and meet people."
In short, his first two months in Whanganui exceeded expectations.
"Even at work when I joined ... the first day they did a powhiri for me. It's something I'll remember for the rest of my life."
And with no daily commute Mr Kumar now has an extra hour-and-a-half each day - time to play table tennis.
"It's the first time I've played in 25 years and I felt 25 years younger. In Wellington I wanted to play but never had the chance.
"I sometimes say to myself I should've made this choice sooner."
