A Wanganui man's "diversified" lifestyle includes brewing moonshine and running a low-powered radio station that broadcasts to five city blocks.
People may remember this self-styled eccentric for his attempt at the mayoralty in 2005, and for selling his soul on TradeMe last year.
Frog Falconer got his nickname because he swallowed a fly at intermediate. He said he was now a "certified alcoholic and dole bludger from hell", as well as the source of a radio station found at 88FM on the dial.
It's called Shock FM, and was given that name as an irritant to The Rock, an Auckland station he used to ring on its 0800 number and harass.
Shock FM has been going for more than two years. It uses the same frequency as Phil Hyde's Dagsy FM, which Mr Falconer helped set up.
Shock FM plays hard rock, heavy metal, Johnny Cash, Pink Floyd and a bit of punk "just to get it to the public". It runs day and night, with a computer randomly choosing songs.
Mr Falconer occasionally speaks on the air. He does not mind his language and said some people might find it shocking.
"If you don't like it, don't tune in."
He would like to get others to talk too - "old Vietnam vets and other characters with some good stories".
He got his radio gear on the cheap or "scored here and there". He wants to use an old hang glider spar for an aerial, placed on either Bastia Hill or the central city Commercial Hotel, to increase coverage.
He started broadcasting in order to hear music he likes, and also to help out the Commercial Hotel by advertising gigs there.
"You have to help these old pubs survive, because they're all dying by the wayside. Its the last real pub in town, a day-time pub full of real reprobates and us good people."
He is a friend of the owner and has a room there, in exchange for some handyman work. He also lives in Waverley. Shock FM is broadcast from a "top secret" location there, and transmitted onward to central Wanganui.
He is considering starting another station at 108FM, with mellower music such as The Rolling Stones, REM and AC/DC "for the older character to listen to that doesn't make the ears bleed".
Also part of Mr Falconer's unusual life have been stints building stages for music acts in Auckland and a coming attempt to run a drag bike on a mixture of alcohol, made in his still, and petrol.
He has done a bit of demolition for people, and may use some of the native timber he got to make customised coffins.
"I'm a gatherer and hoarder of all sorts. I've got a one-acre section in Waverley full of it.
"It's called Frogonomics, and it works in ways."
