A display of flags to mark the Rugby World Cup should cheer people up after a hard winter, Mike Buchanan says.
His business in Ingestre St is flying flags of the nations competing, and changing them to match the games of the following or next few days.
It's fun, Mr Buchanan said. His three staff helped with it, and it helped the town too.
"We needed a bit more community things going on."
The business has been flying flags at the corner of Ingestre St and Bell St since it moved there four years ago - and not just for rugby world cups. It has hoisted flags for Fathers' Day, Mothers' Day and the Cricket World Cup also.
Mr Buchanan likes flags, and flies them from his Plunket St house too. He also likes all kinds of sport, and at the weekend he mountain biked 60km in a day on the Waikato River Cycle Trails.
Last Rugby World Cup he flew only flags related to All Black games. This year he's flying flags for all the games.
The flag of each of the 20 nations will be flown at least once, whittling down to just a few as the final nears.
Mr Buchanan will be on the spot then. He'll be in the United Kingdom from October 15 to 29, to see his son in London and watch some games. He'll watch one in Wales and another at Twickenham.
Which team does he think will win? He's betting on the home team.
"I actually believe the All Blacks will do it. No team has really stood out so far, but if there's a team in the world that will win when the going gets tough, it's the All Blacks."
