The brilliant fiddler Marian Burns leads the line-up in Operatunity's toe-tapping concert 3 Mad Fiddlers and the Odd Singer. Marian Burns will warm you up on a cold winter's day with her infectious energy in a concert full of variety - from furiously fast fiddle playing to beautiful traditional melodies. She is a frequent performer and recording artist, and has a long list of awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Australian Golden Fiddle Awards.
Marian will be burning up the strings along with two talented young fiddle players, Vanessa Harvey and Michaela Roy, both originally from Gore. Vanessa and Michaela met at kindergarten, and when Michaela turned up one day with her new violin, Vanessa was determined to have one of her own. They started lessons with the same violin teacher when they were five and later began having lessons with Marian.
They have been entering music competitions together over the past four years and this year their duo, Tangled Strings, won the Senior Instrumental Section of the New Zealand Gold Guitar Awards.
-They will perform at the War Memorial Hall on July 23 at 11am. Call toll free 0508 266 237 to book your tickets.
