Dempsey and Forrest Funeral Service recently added a vehicle to its fleet - a 1948 Jaguar that will provide transport for families to attend funerals.
Hayley Robinson is the designated driver of "Dempsey", as the car has been named, and said it was great to drive.
"Our Austin hearse is named Agna and we thought this one should have a name too and we wanted to pay respect to the Dempsey family," said James Forrest.
"My family started the business with their family in 1930 and worked together over the decades and there are no Dempseys working here now, so this is nice way of acknowledging that long partnership."
The Jaguar was bought from a Thames couple who had owned it for a long time.
"They have taken excellent care of the car and wanted to make sure it went to a good home - they were very happy to know that the car will be part of our service and well taken care of."
Dempsey joins a fleet that includes a 1937 Studebaker hearse, a modern Ford Fairlane and Holden Commodore as well as Agna - the Austin hearse imported from Lancashire, England, where it made appearances on The Bill and Last of the Summer Wine.
Mr Forrest said the car's film career did not end when it arrived in New Zealand and it appeared in the Predicament, filmed in 2010. "People really like the old cars for farewelling their loved ones, and we have conducted some services with horse-drawn carriages, although we don't keep our own horses or carriages. We endeavour to provide whatever service people ask for."
