Wanganui's Maori health services team has been recognised for Te Hau Ranga Ora Haumoana Services which was introduced to Whanganui Hospital last year.
It earned the team the supreme award at last week's health and disability awards.
Maori health services director Rowena Kui said the team was delighted with the recognition.
"For us, it's been about supporting the kaupapa of quality improvement," Mrs Kui said.
The awards attracted 31 entries.
Whanganui District Health Board board chair Dot McKinnon said the awards were a wonderful way to recognise quality and excellence in the district's health and disability sector where a lot of exciting and innovative work was taking place.
"Our communities can take comfort in knowing that their health sector is in good heart and that Te Oranganui, the Whanganui Regional Health Network and the district health board are all working well together."
The ceremony's keynote speech was made by Wanganui Enterprises manager Andy Lynn with Health and Safety Commission chief executive Janice Wilson presenting the supreme award.
