Contractors were at it again yesterday, cleaning up a number of slips around the Wanganui district after more heavy rain overnight created mayhem on the roads.
The biggest slip closed SH3 for a few hours early in the morning after a large tree blocked the highway at the William Birch pool, a few kilometres north of Maxwell, yesterday.
Police diverted traffic through Rangatatau West Rd and Pakaraka Rd until the debris was removed.
The road reopened about 8.30am.
Around the same time and closer to the city, SH3 was partially blocked as a result of a slip near Mission Rd.
Traffic was restricted to one lane until the mud was cleared.
It was repeat of the problems the rain has caused since last Thursday, with more than 300 minor slips across the district.
Traffic had been reduced to one lane and speed restricted to 30km/h with slips coming down on to parts of SH4 between the city and Raetihi.
Meanwhile, Mangamahu Rd will be closed indefinitely after a massive slip took out a section of roadway and retaining walls at Aranui Bluff above the Whangaehu River, about 18km north of Mangamahu village.
Residents are having to use the Burma Hill Rd north of the slip, while access south is still open over Wyley's Bridge.
