You can hear a pin drop at the Phoenix Bar of the St John's Club, where the Masters Games' snooker tournament is taking place. Competition began yesterday and will run until Friday.
Co-ordinator Jack Osborne said competitors took the tournament "quite seriously".
"Snooker is a very technical game - far more so than pool. The tables are very big and games can go on for a long time," Mr Osborne said.
He said numbers had stayed steady over several Masters Games. With 22 competitors this year, that's only two down from the last Masters Games.
However, very few women are taking part, but Mr Osborne is unsure why that is. "We have four women at this Masters Games - and that's the most we've ever had," he said.
Because of the small numbers, the women's competition is open, rather than being graded by age. The men's competition has three age categories - over 35, over 50 and over 65. The singles tournament took place yesterday, while doubles will be happening today.
