Entries were slightly down for the 26th annual Wanganui-Manawatu Sea Fishing Club competition but it was still a great success.
Club treasurer Darrell Healey said about 200 entries were received for the weekend's event and just over 60 boats headed out over the bar on Saturday.
"Conditions were a bit sloppy, but it was definitely fishable. We got two solid days of fishing in," Mr Healey said.
Conditions were unsuitable for fishing yesterday, so the contest ended early. Despite that, good fish were caught, including an 18kg kingfish, a 12kg hapuka and crayfish of about 3.5kg.
"We had a lot of people come from out of town, from as far away as Wairarapa and Rotorua," Mr Healey said.
Weigh-ins were held daily and a fish auction was held on Sunday, with the money going towards a maintenance fund.
Matt Watson, of TVNZ's ITM Fishing Show, was among the judges.
