As workplaces get back into gear in 2015, there is an opportunity to kick off the new year with a great team-building exercise - Twilight 400 at the Southern Trust New Zealand Masters Games.
Twilight 400 is very much a social event with prizes for just about anything and medals for those who excel in their sports.
Participants, either individual or team, rotate around four sports over two nights - archery, smallbore rifle shooting, darts and target bowls.
The theme for the 2015 Twilight 400 is "Crims & Villains" which means it's time to find your inner alter ego - be it the wicked Queen from Snow White, the hunter in Bambi or something more sinister such as Hannibal Lecter or the shark out of Jaws.
Competitors board one of two buses - each one going to a different sports venue - and they will not know where their bus is going until seated and the doors are closed.
The first round is over the Monday and Tuesday of the Games, February 2 and 3; round two kicks off on Wednesday, February 4, and concludes on the Thursday, with prize-giving to be held at the Games Village following the completion of competition on the last night of each round.
Further details of the Twilight event can be found online at nzmg.com and are also available in the Masters Games handbook.
The Games - which are launched on Friday, January 30, and run until Sunday, February 8 - are in need of volunteers to help with the smooth running of events.
Volunteers will have fun and gain valuable experience of being involved in New Zealand's largest multi-sport event.
These positions are particularly popular among tertiary students on study leave, and offer the perfect opportunity to engage in a voluntary role to support the local community.
Those who commit to three four-hour shifts will receive a volunteer shirt, a Games pack, and a village pass for the duration of the Games. They will also be invited to attend the special volunteer celebration on the last day of the event.
Those interested in becoming a volunteer, should email volunteers@nzmg.com, phone 06 3491815, or call in at the NZMG office at Springvale Park.
-Next week we take a look inside the Games Village and explore all it has to offer.
