The Wanganui Coastguard needs more volunteers on board.
Crew co-ordinator Les Wilson said the organisation had about 15 volunteers but needed 10 more to be at full strength.
However, it wouldn't affect the service heading into summer.
"[At the moment] it just means people have to do a bit extra. It would be nice to have more people."
It can take several months to become a qualified volunteer, so the group was keen to get the ball rolling with new recruits.
At the moment the Wanganui Coastguard volunteers do two weeks on-call before having four weeks off.
How many callouts in a given week varied, Mr Wilson said.
"That's the problem. It takes a little bit of commitment (but) as I say, if we've got enough people, you get the four weeks off."
Mr Wilson said anyone would make a good volunteer as long as he or she was relatively fit and committed. Anyone interested can call 344 5244 or email fivemckennas@xtra.co.nz
