The release of the final Hobbit movie - The Battle of the Five Armies - has produced a windfall for New Zealand Post with Hobbit-themed stamps and coins being snapped up by fans and collectors all over the world.
An NZ Post spokesman said people in 68 countries had so far ordered and received stamps and coins from the new issue.
"Kiwis are the keenest buyers, but the United States, Britain, Australia, the Netherlands and Thailand are catching up," he said.
The items have also been sold in Israel, Trinidad and Tobago, Ukraine, Mexico, Papua New Guinea and Bulgaria.
Well-known characters Bilbo, Gandalf the Grey and Bard the Bowman, Elves Tauriel and Thranduil, villains Azog the Defiler and his army of Orcs, and the fire-breathing Dragon Smaug feature on the official stamps and coins.
The film The Hobbit - The Battle of the Five Armies had its world premiere in London and Wellington simultaneously on Tuesday.
It will open in Wanganui at the Embassy on December 11.
