A Marton teenager says an upgrade to the town's skate park has wide support among youth. And he's put the proof to the Rangitikei District Council.
A 163-signature petition from Roman Strong will be discussed at the council's assets committee meeting this week.
Roman said he had been pushing for an upgrade to the park, which is at Centennial Park, since 2011.
Mayor Andy Watson went to the skate park to discuss Roman's ideas with him and challenged Roman to get 150 signatures. If he could, Mr Watson would "try and pursue it."
"It's one of the most used facilities in the district," Mr Watson said.
The 16-year-old managed to gather the signatures in three days.
"I think Marton skate park was done in 2003 and it's due for an upgrade. Some people are getting a bit bored with what's there," he said.
Part of the petition also had suggestions for the upgrade which included a wider bowl, a mini half-pipe and down rails.
Roman said he would wait to hear back from council.
"It really all depends on the council now."
A report will probably be undertaken on the district's skate park facilities. Mr Watson said the Taihape skate park would also be looked at.
For the past two years the Marton skate park has hosted the Marton Scoot and Skate competition, attracting hundreds of spectators.
