A Wanganui weaver has been selected for a Maori art show in Wellington this weekend.
Rose White-Tahuparae will join 200 other contemporary Maori artists taking part in Toi Maori Art Market, in the TSB Bank Arena on Wellington's waterfront.
The exhibition opened yesterday and runs until tomorrow.
Ms White-Tahuparae has been weaving for about 15 years.
However, she didn't become serious about it until her late husband needed a new korowai (cloak) and Ms White-Tahuparae decided to make him one.
She hasn't been able to put her weaving down since.
She comes from a family of weavers, although she wasn't taught by them.
"I didn't learn anything from them, I was too busy doing other things. I'm kind of self-taught. Someone showed me how to do a six-inch piece and I just went from there.
"I'm pretty passionate about the craft."
Despite coming to weaving later in life, she has had her work in numerous exhibitions. For the Toi Maori Art Market, Ms White-Tahuparae has teamed up with her partner, Wiremu Edwards.
"It's a labour of love, and we're pretty happy with what we've got."
Another Wanganui artist, Maehe Ranginui, took part in Toi Maori Art Market's fashion show at Te Papa last weekend.
