The Rangitikei District Council wants to help Samoan families settle into New Zealand life and especially Marton.
Earlier this year meat processor Anzco, which employs workers from Apia, organised a meeting in Marton to discuss the needs of Samoan families moving to the area. Rangitikei mayor Andy Watson set up another meeting with representatives from several organisations to progress issues and ideas raised at the July meeting.
"We had identified the need to come up with better induction and welcoming processes," Mr Watson told the council.
Mr Watson then met with local Samoan leaders at the council.
"They will now go and select their representatives and come back to us so [we] can work out their needs," Mr Watson said.
"The Samoa community are an important part of our district, they bring richness to our culture and the company recruiting are in Samoa at moment."
Mr Watson expected 38 Samoan families to be arriving in the district shortly.
"So it is important we assist in any way we can," he said.
Anzco did not respond to requests for comment.
