World Suicide Prevention Day will be marked in Wanganui today at Majestic Square.
Kia piki te ora/suicide prevention co-ordinator Stormie Hunter-Rogan, for Nga Tai O Te Awa, said the group would be in the square where "some random acts of kindness will be given to be passed on".
She said it was unfortunate that the day existed, and that "many of our whanau and friends in the community are bereaved or affected by suicide".
"The goal will be to get our community talking about preventing suicide.
"The random acts are simple things us humans should do more often. So come on down and pass on an act of kindness and start the conversation," she said.
Nga Tai O Te Awa will be at the square from 11am to 1pm, and there will be the chance to enter into a draw for a prize pack drawn next Wednesday.
Ms Hunter-Rogan said Nga Tai O Te Awa was part of the Wasp (Wellbeing And Suicide Prevention) group which works in collaboration with a number of services and agencies.
Formed in 2013, the group's focus is "taking the sting out of suicide" by generating wellbeing and healthy living by way of education, referral pathways and positive messaging.
