A woman who reported a neighbour for unsafe dogs is upset Animal Control tooted at her house as they drove down the street after picking up the pets.
Animal Control said they tooted outside the complainant's home without malice, but identifying who has called the animal control officer in a street is not a safe practice, says the Wanganui woman.
The woman said she'd earlier complained more than once about the dogs, and threatened to go to the Chronicle if nothing was done.
"The dog control were really pissed off with me," she said.
Following the threat, an animal control officer came out to the property, took two dogs, and tooted the horn when passing the woman's house.
Wanganui District Council deputy strategy and development manager Jonathan Barrett said "the Animal Control officer who tooted near [the woman's] house did so in a friendly manner and it was not intended as anything else.
"The council has since apologised to [the woman] about any concern the tooting caused."
The woman said she had been told it was not spiteful, but it didn't seem like that to her.
She thought it was a dangerous practice and could possibly cause problems for her, as she could be identified.
The apology was only at the end of a conversation when she had rung the council after not getting a response from a letter of complaint.
