A man caught drink driving said he was unco-operative with police because he thought the officer was a "smartass".
Grant David Trillo pleaded guilty to driving with excess breath alcohol a third or subsequent time after being found over the limit at a police checkpoint last month. He had been riding a motorbike at the time.
He has two previous drink-driving convictions. The beneficiary was unco-operative with officers, police prosecutor Sergeant Stephen Butler told Whanganui District Court on Tuesday.
Judge David Cameron asked Trillo, who was self-represented, why he was difficult with police.
"I was just disappointed that I stuffed it up again, and I felt the cop was a smartass," Trillo replied.
Judge Cameron said "probably the feeling was mutual". He sentenced Trillo to 50 hours community work and disqualified him from driving for one year and one day.
