Reprinting a colouring book has gone gang-busters for the Wanganui Lions Club - in fact, it's been such a success that the reprint has had to be reprinted to keep up with demand.
The original book, featuring the attractions at the city's famed Kowhai Park, was printed some years ago and featured the drawings of former Chronicle artist, the late Don Weller.
The book was used as a fundraiser then and after getting permission from the family, the club had 500 copies re-run.
Club president Tony Grant-Fargie said the printing was handled by local company Meteor Print and the books sold for $4 each.
"Those first 500 copies sold out so quickly we had to have another 500 printed.
"And we may have to get a third rerun if the sales continue as they have been," Mr Grant-Fargie said.
It had all happened in the space of a month.
"We reckon this book would make a great children's present. It features all the famous characters and fun rides in Kowhai Park."
Income from the sales will be used to maintain the Lions Club miniature train which runs in Kowhai Park.
"The train is our major fundraiser but there are expenses as part of its operation.
"That includes train maintenance, storage and track repairs. Proceeds from the book sales will go toward that," Mr Grant-Fargie said.
The club's other major income source was sales of firewood.
"We sell pine, willow, macrocarpa and gum when we can get it and all is donated by local farmers mainly.
"Some of the firewood we will give to needy pensioners," he said.
Copies of the book can be bought at the train store between 1pm-3pm Saturdays and Sundays (weather permitting) and from Meteor Print in Ridgway St.
