A Wanganui returned serviceman and long-time RSA member is outraged he must pay more in annual subscriptions to the RSA than new members.
Dave Hiroti, who fought in the Vietnam War in 1968-9, said the club's discount on new memberships was "disparaging" to current RSA members.
Wanganui RSA president Dave Large said the club currently had a "two for one" promotion running until the end of April.
Mr Large said a single returned serviceman could still join for $30, but if a returned serviceman and his partner joined, they would pay $32.
He said it was a "matter of survival" for the RSA, and was aimed at getting new members.
"A lot of the other clubs are doing it, so we thought we'd try it too. And I have to say it's been very successful for us."
But Mr Hiroti said the two-for-one deal was insulting.
"I find [the RSA's] decision of lowering fees to boost their numbers disparaging to current members, who see the RSA as not just a place of recreation, but an allegiance of those who shared memories of those that have fallen."
Mr Hiroti has been a member of the RSA since 1969.
Mr Hiroti's partner, Eleanor Graham, said when the couple went to renew their annual membership this year they had to pay $30 each.
"But any Joe Blow off the street can come in and get this deal for half the price," she said.
