A new cafe on the eastern side of the Whanganui River opened its doors for the first time over the weekend.
Cafe Soul on Hikurangi is located in Hikurangi StayPlace - formerly Hikurangi Rest Home - on Bastia Hill.
Its opening was part of an open day held at Hikurangi StayPlace.
Owners Viv and Theo Perry said the open day had been held to welcome people to the cafe and allow them to look around the accommodation at Hikurangi StayPlace.
"Plenty of people came through, I would say it exceeded our expectations," Mrs Perry said.
The cafe will be open 9am-4pm from Wednesday to Sunday.
Mrs Perry said Hikurangi StayPlace opened in January, with its point of difference being that nearly every room had an en suite. She said it was available for weddings, conferences and other functions.
